Abbie Hagen is the Resident Costume Designer at The Rose Theater in Omaha, Nebraska.  With an MFA in Costume Design and Technology from Kent State University, Abbie Hagen has experience working as a costume designer, stage manager, wardrobe head, and costume shop assistant manager.  Abbie also has an Honors BFA in Theatrical Production and Design from Westminster College. She has worked with Porthouse Theatre, the Salt Lake Acting Company, and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival in a professional capacity and is extremely passionate about the power of creative storytelling.

Theatrical Work Experience

2025-Present

The Rose Theater

Resident Costume, Hair, and Makeup

  • Designed costumes, hair and makeup for The Rose's season of main stage shows

  • Served as craft/dye head for all productions in The Rose's main stage season

2022-2025

Kent State University

Graduate Assistant

  • Created curriculum for and taught introductory sewing lab classes and introductory production design lecture classes

  • Designed costumes, hair, and makeup for Main Stage productions

  • Worked in the Kent State Costume Shop as a wardrobe captain, stitcher, dyer, first hand, and draper on various productions

Porthouse Theatre

Costume Designer and Craft/Dye Head

  • Designed all costumes, hair, and makeup for School of Rock in 2025, Annie in 2024, and The Marvelous Wonderettes in 2023

  • Dyed fabric, painted custom prints onto textiles, airbrushed extant garments, and crafted jewelry pieces as craft/dye head

Idaho Shakespeare Festival

  • Constructed and altered costumes at the direction of head draper

  • Led undergraduate students in costume construction for productions

  • Began work as a stitcher (2018-2019), promoted to assistant costume shop manager in 2020

  • Aided in purchasing, fittings, alterations, and in dress rehearsals
